Hey everyone! We just spent a weekend in Ireland. Yep, it was short notice — but how can you turn down an invite for missional surfing on the Irish west coast? This is just a little update from my perspective on what we did and what we saw! You may hear more from Grant soon, too.
Our travel included train, bus, plane, and rental car. I safely learned to drive on the left side of the road! Thanks, Grant, for your faithful copiloting. My skills grew enough that my passengers could feel safe for car naps as we crossed through the heart of the country. Thanks for your prayers, everyone; God is keeping us very safe over here.
This surf retreat has happened in Lahinch for over a decade now. It has always been an opportunity for Agape students to invite their friends into a Christian space where they feel welcomed and loved. We spent the weekend surfing, playing games, sharing meals, and competing at Irish pub trivia.
Our mission for the trip? Make two friends in the power of the Holy Spirit. And that we did! We were quick to fall in love with these lively, fun-loving Irish who welcomed us to their island. We made many friends, and we’ve got some great contacts for people to find when we return.
We also strengthened relationships with Agape staff. It was great to see Sean, Reuben, and Ronan again. And they were encouraged to see us. As we approach our transition to Ireland, please pray for their team. They are becoming weary from some internal conflicts that may shift dynamics in the coming months. In light of this, Sean encouraged us that our team of six is coming at a great time in their ministry.
We left Ireland feeling refreshed and excited to move there soon. I know it was great for my soul to put on a wetsuit and surf some waves. In some odd way, it felt like home to me.
Cowabunga,
Esten
